Engineering better outcomes for children with heart disease

The 3D-Heart Collaborative is a national network of pediatric heart centers bringing patient-specific modeling, virtual surgical planning, and simulation into everyday clinical care for congenital heart disease.

About the Collaborative

Every child with congenital heart disease has a unique anatomy. Engineering tools — 3D reconstruction from imaging, patient-specific models, and computational simulation — let care teams understand that anatomy before the operating room.

The 3D-Heart Collaborative brings together pediatric heart centers across the country to make these tools accessible, consistent, and evidence-based. Member centers share workflows, train engineers and clinicians, and work together to measure the impact of engineering on patient outcomes.

What we do

Patient-specific modeling

3D reconstruction of cardiac anatomy from CT and MRI, delivered as digital models for case review and family education.

Virtual surgical planning

Interactive planning of repairs, baffles, and patches on the patient's own anatomy, so surgical teams can compare strategies before the case.

Simulation & flow analysis

Computational fluid dynamics and other simulations that predict how a proposed repair may perform hemodynamically.

Training

Competency-based, clinically focused training for engineers, plus guidance on integrating engineering services into clinical workflows.

Program development

Strategy and support for connecting surgeons, cardiologists, imagers, and engineers to build collaborative teams to bring these tools to the bedside.

Billing & finance

Strategy and coordination with billing and administrative teams to build sustainable programs that support the patients who need it.

A growing national network

The Collaborative launches with four founding member centers. If your program is interested in joining, let us know below.
